    Shipping Details Description: Begin any writing project by introducing Buddy the Book® through a read-aloud of The Book That Wanted to be Read. Then, each participant can imagine themselves or another individual as a book and will create an illustrated text in a Story Booklet. Additional curriculum material is provided in PDF format to assist with narrative, opinion, and informative text types. Includes:
    • 1 Hardcover Copy of The Book That Wanted to be Read (*Sent immediately after purchase*)
    • 5 Story Booklets (*3 Booklets sent immediately after purchase*)
    • Access to all versions of the PDF material (narrative, opinion, and informative text types)
    Expected Arrival: For only this order, 2 of the Story Booklets will be shipped in May 2020. This is due to delays on our new inventory stemming from the ongoing pandemic. All other materials will arrive 1-2 weeks after your purchase.
  • Description: This $60 fee covers the cost to enroll 1 individual in any 1 of the 4 scheduled class sessions. These Buddy the Book® Workshop sessions are hosted through the City of Goodyear Parks and Recreation Department. You MUST also register for this class through the City of Goodyear at, goodyearaz.gov/register. Search "Buddy the Book" to find the available class sessions and pay the registration fee to the city. This fee is $10 for residents and $20 for non-residents. Registration fee is non-refundable, and the enrollment fee may be refundable depending on any class cancellations. After paying for enrollment here, you will receive a link to a questionnaire, where you will share some information with us so that we can confirm that you are registered through the city. Class Information Class Title: Buddy the Book® Workshop Class Type: Group class that includes writing, illustration, and arts & crafts activities Ages: 6-12 Length: 4-Week session that meets once a week for a period of 1 hour and 15 minutes.     • Session A) Wednesdays, May 27 – June 17; 10:00-11:15 AM

    Location: Goodyear Community Center (420 E Loma Linda Blvd, Goodyear, AZ 85338) Instructor: Linda Hall (30+ years of teaching experience. Most recently taught at Litchfield Elementary School District for 12 years.) Description: The Buddy the Book® Workshop is a writing enrichment program for elementary-aged students. The class begins by introducing Buddy the Book® through a read-aloud of the children’s book, The Book That Wanted to be Read. After this, each student will imagine themselves or another individual as a book. Through the perspective of this “Book Character” (narrator), they will create an illustrated narrative, opinion, or informative text. This is all completed in a custom Story Booklet, which is printed in the shape of a Book Character like Buddy. The booklets, which the students get to keep, have legs, movable arms, and 10 internal pages to write and illustrate. After finalizing their illustrated texts, the students will finish the class by designing the covers of their Story Booklets to resemble the Book Characters that they developed.     • Narrative, opinion, and informative text types.
    • Techniques to generate and structure ideas, which are based on the text type that they are writing.
    • Ways to convert these preliminary ideas into a finalized, written text.
    • Methods to group their text onto pages and generate illustrations to visually represent that text.
    • Strategies for finalizing those illustrations and designing the cover of their Story Booklets.
    Required Student Materials: Pencil, pen, notebook, and folder. Everything else is provided by Crafted Thought LLC, which includes the Story Booklet that each enrolled student gets to keep and bring home. **Disclaimer** A class session may only be put on if the minimum number of students are enrolled. If this minimum is not met, you will be notified before the first day of class. You will have the option to carry over that enrollment spot to the next available classes, or you may choose to be refunded for the enrollment fee. There is a non-refundable transaction fee of $3, so any refund will be for the amount of enrollment minus this fee.
